line

The trail in this picture respresents the line that leads to the end of the mountains. This picture was taken at the end of a hike in New Zealand. The line brings attention, but doesnt distract from the rest of the view.

breadth

porportion/scale

This photograph shows the proportion of a human compared to the large meadow surrounding. With this reference, viewers can see the difference in size.

illusion of space

This photo was taken in Glacier National Park in Montana. This lake was giant, and through this picture, you can see that it takes up lots of space. The mountains in the background emphasize just how big the surrounding area is. Even though this is a 2-D picture, the viewer can see the size and space that this scene takes up.

color

In Banff National Park, I was able to see the bluest water ever. These lakes are glacier-fed and are crystal clear. I think this photo represents color because not only is the water extremely blue, but the blue sky is visible too. The color pops but also ties in with the other colors.

variety

While sitting in my friend's room, I noticed the variety in the pictures she had on her wall. Each of these pictures is somewhat related but is different at the same time. They draw attention but work well with each other because they have relating colors.

illusion of motion

The motion in this photo is obvious. The runner is leaping over the hurdle as she competes in the shuttle hurdle relay. The motion is shown through her body and its relation with the surrounding.

emphasis

IMG_5726.jpg

The emphasis in this picture is clearly on the flowers. The background was at first distracting with the green plants and the colored rocks, so I decided to take to color out of those objects and only allow the red of the flowers to pop through.

shape

IMG_5727-2.jpg

I think this photo exemplifies shape because of the different flowers in all of our corsages. Each flower is a different type, resulting in different shapes of flowers and corsages. Although this isn't the average example of shape shown in a picture, I think it is a very good example.

texture

IMG_5781.jpg

In this picture, you can see the texture of the fluffy dandelion. The quality of the picture allows the viewer to see each little hair on the flower.

value

Value is the difference between light and dark. In this picture, the value is very evident and the light is different in the separate parts of the picture. The background is lighter and the subject is dark, separating the two parts of the picture.

contrast

The contrast in this photo is very evident. You can see the lights and the shadows and the colors are very different from eachother. Since this was taken in the sunlight, you can see the high contrast with the light highlights and the dark shadows.

figure/ground relationship

The angle in this photo puts emphasis on the figure-ground relationship. The figure in the foreground stands out from the background and shows the difference in size and position. Additionally, I chose to make this black and white to make the figure stand out even more

For this assignment, we were to take pictures that exemplified each of the elements and principles of art. In my opinion, this was one of the harder assignments that we had to do because I was unsure how to clearly represent each of the pieces. I think my favorite picture of this collection is either line or illusion of space. I loved how the line of the trail brings attention but does not distract from the entirety of the picture. The space picture shows just how giant the lake and mountains are without someone actually being there in person. I liked that we could edit these however we wanted because sometimes using editing to show an element or principle makes it more obvious. I think some of my pictures I could have taken more time to find a better photo to represent the element/principle, but overall I am happy with how this collection turned out.
