#1- Alfred Stieglitz

My favorite part of the picture is the reflection of the water. I like the details it has of the buildings around it, and the boats in the water. I think this photos intention was to show parts of the city and the differences in cultures. For example, we use cars and bikes to travel around cities, but in Venice, Italy, they use boats. I think he wanted to capture this moment because he thought it was unique, and he liked the reflection. I think the emphasis of the photo is the boats, when I look and then look away and look back, I see the boats right away. I think i makes it look more rustic and old, I think it still looks interesting without the color, and more with a brownish hue. It would be busier in my opinion if it had color. I like it better with the brownish black and white, it would still be cool with color but i prefer the black and white. I think the mood is sad, and kinda creepy. They picture is not super focused, there are no people in the photograph, and the brownish hue gives it a creepy and sad feel. The other things in the picture include buildings  around it, the reflection in the waterway, and an arch in the background for boats to go through. Yes, the photo holds my attention because as you keep looking at it, you can always find more details in the photo. I chose this photo because I liked the traveling feel, and differences from the United States. I also like the way this photo is set up, which is why I chose to write about this picture of Alfred Stieglitz.

#1- Dorothea Lange

What I see in the photo is three kids, 2 sitting against a tree, and one looking at the tree. They look like they live in a third world country, where they don't have much electricity, or clean water, or developed houses. This photo's purpose is to show people different places where people live. the conditions they live in, and their style of life. She is trying to make a statement about places people are unaware of. The kids faces is what catches my eye, they seem very sad and are dirty, like they haven't showered in a while. It makes me want to help the kids. I think we would be able to understand more what was going on if it was not black and white. I think the black and white shows the oldness of the picture. I like this in black and white better than it would be with color. I think the mood given off by this picture is sad because of the kids faces, and the conditions they are in. It makes me sad, because I want those kids to be able to live the way they want, and not be stopped by the things in a third world country. I can see the houses in the background, and their little hut in the back made out of sheets. This photo does keep my attention because is is interesting. I chose this photo because it makes me sad and makes me want to help those kids.
